Hey besties, it’s Tina.
I was scrolling through my drafts today and stumbled across a thought that basically sums up my entire existence. It’s that one question that hits you at 3:00 AM when you’re staring at the ceiling, or worse, at 2:00 PM while you’re standing in the middle of a grocery aisle holding a single lime for no reason. It’s a very real, very honest question that has been sitting heavy on my spirit for a while now:
“Wtf be the reason behind allat weird shi… like why do y’all do that?”
No seriously. I’m not even trying to be funny right now—although it will be funny because life is ridiculous—but I genuinely want to know. Why do people do the things they do and then act shocked when someone looks at them like, “…are you okay?”
I’m looking directly in the mirror here, too. We are all collectively unhinged, but there’s a difference between the “funny weird” and the “wait, what are you actually doing?” weird. Let’s talk about the absolute glitches in the matrix that we call human behavior.
Why do we do this? You go into a store telling yourself, “I’m just looking.” Your bank account is currently screaming at you in lowercase letters, but there you are, putting a $70 candle in your cart because it smells like “midnight rain and expensive regrets.”
And then—this is the weird part—we walk around with it for twenty minutes just to put it back on a random shelf next to the canned beans. Why did we take that candle on a tour of the store? Did it need to see the sights?
Can we talk about the “Phone Anxiety” vs. “The Need for Attention” struggle? I will literally ignore a phone call from my favorite person because seeing the screen light up felt like a personal attack. I’ll watch it ring, wait for it to stop, and then immediately go back to scrolling on TikTok.
But then, ten minutes later, I’m sitting there thinking, “Wow, nobody even checks on me. I’m so lonely.” Tina, girl, you just declined the fellowship! Why is the “Talk” button so scary, but the “Post a Cryptic Story” button so easy?
The other day, I was just walking—literally just putting one foot in front of the other—and I saw a neighbor. My brain immediately went: “Initiate Human Walk Protocol.” Suddenly, I didn’t know what to do with my arms. I ended up doing a weird half-jog, half-limp situation while waving a hand that looked like a bird wing. Why can’t we just be?
But see, that’s the lighthearted stuff. Let’s get into the other side of that question. Because listen: I mind my business. I truly do. I stay in my lane, signal before merging, and try not to make unnecessary noise in other people’s lives. But some of the behavior I witness? It forces me to break my silence.
Why do people move funny and then swear they’re being misunderstood?
Why do people act shady and then get offended when you don’t trust them? Why do people do weird things on purpose and then play confused when it backfires?
Help me understand.
I’ve learned that a lot of people don’t actually want peace—they want control. They want attention. They want to poke, prod, and test boundaries, then pretend they were “just joking” when you finally respond. And the wild part? When you call it out calmly, suddenly you’re the problem. Suddenly you’re “doing too much” or “overthinking.” Oh, but it was deep when you were doing it, right?
I think the reason we do the harmless stuff—like checking the fridge three times in ten minutes hoping a cheesecake has manifested itself—is just a survival mechanism for the absurdity of life. We say “Ope!” when we bump into a wall because life is heavy and we’re just trying to balance it out by being goofballs. That’s the “weird shi” that makes us relatable. I need to know you have a “designated pile” of clothes on a chair that is too dirty for the closet but too clean for the laundry. That is the universal language of humanity.
But the other weird behavior? The moving in half-truths and vague signals? I’ve realized that always has a reason behind it, too. Sometimes it’s insecurity, sometimes it’s jealousy, and sometimes people really are just… weird.
I used to try to understand everything. I wanted logic. Now? I understand that not everything deserves my mental energy. Some behavior isn’t meant to be solved—it’s meant to be avoided.
If you find yourself doing something silly and thinking, “Why am I like this?”—just know I’m probably doing the exact same thing. We’re all just out here vibrating at a very strange frequency. But if you’re constantly being asked “why” you’re moving shady, it might be time to look inward. Patterns don’t lie.
So, the next time you see someone doing some “weird shi,” if it’s harmless, just nod. They’re just going through the “Humaning” process. But if it’s toxic? Protect your peace and distance yourself.
Stay weird (the good kind), stay messy, and for the love of God, someone tell me why we all have a “junk drawer” filled with cables for electronics we haven’t owned since 2012.
As always…
Just a story from Tina
