Why You Can’t Psych Out a Mind That’s Already Closed for Renovations

Why You Can’t Psych Out a Mind That’s Already Closed for Renovations

Hey everyone, Tina here.

Let’s talk about a specific type of person. You know the ones. The “Chess Players.” The people who approach every conversation, text message, and brunch date like they’re trying to checkmate you in three moves. They use the strategic pauses, the cryptic “we need to talk” texts that lead to nowhere, and the classic “I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed” sigh.

They are out here playing 4D chess, trying to get into my head, mapping out my psychological triggers like they’re Lewis and Clark. And honestly? I almost feel bad for them. Because while they are busy setting up their elaborate mind games, they’re failing to realize one very important thing: The lights are on, but nobody’s home.

The Reality of Mind Games in Tina-Land

The joke is really on them. They think they’re playing against a grandmaster, but I’m over here playing Hungry Hungry Hippos at best. Usually, I’m just trying to remember if I actually turned off the hair straightener or if my house is currently becoming a campfire.

Here is the breakdown of how these emotional manipulation strategies actually go down in my world:

1. The “Silent Treatment” Strategy

  • Their Goal: They stop texting to see if I’ll panic and double-text.
  • The Reality: I assume they’re busy, or I forget my phone exists for three business days. I finally check it and think, “Oh, look, a notification from Tuesday. Cute.”

2. The “Vague Social Media Post” Strategy

  • Their Goal: They post a cryptic quote about “true friends” to see if I’ll ask what’s wrong.
  • The Reality: I scroll past it while thinking about whether I want tacos or a salad for dinner. (Spoilers: It’s always tacos.)

3. The “Needing Space” Power Move

  • Their Goal: They tell me they need “space” to make me feel insecure.
  • The Reality: I hear “free time” and immediately book a nap. Thanks for the afternoon off, Gary!

The Peace of Running Out of “F-cks” to Give

There is a certain kind of peace that comes with reaching a level of burnout where you simply run out of “f-cks” to give. People try to manipulate my emotions, and I’m just standing there like a Sim with a low social meter, staring at a wall.

You can’t play mind games with me because my mind is gone. It packed its bags, took a vacation to a remote island with no Wi-Fi, and left a “Return to Sender” note on the door. I am operating on pure vibes and muscle memory at this point.

If you try to reverse-psychology me, I will just agree with you because it’s the path of least resistance.

  • “I bet you won’t do the dishes.” * “You’re right, I won’t. Great talk.” See? Game over. I win by default because I refused to step onto the board.

A Message to the Emotional Architects

To all the manipulators, the drama-stirrers, and the emotional architects trying to build a skyscraper in my head: Give it up. The foundation is shaky, the permits have expired, and I’ve lost the keys to the front door.

Life is way too short to spend it wondering what someone “meant” by that specific emoji. If you want something, tell me. If you’re mad, say it. Because if you try to play it cool and go the long way around, I promise you, I will get distracted by a cool-looking bird or a sale at Target and forget you were even there.

Staying Efficient and Mindless

I’m not being mean; I’m just being efficient. My brain cells are a limited resource, and I’m not spending them on your “strategy.”

So, cheers to all my fellow “mindless” queens. May your heads be empty, your hearts be full, and your “f-cks” be absolutely non-existent.

  1. This is such a sharp, witty, and entertaining piece 😄

You’ve captured that “Chess Player” personality with spot-on humor and brilliant timing. The contrast between their calculated mind games and your relaxed, almost blissfully unbothered responses is what makes it truly shine.
