Welcome back to Stories from Tina. Grab a cup of coffee (or a glass of wine, again, zero judgment here), get comfortable, and let’s get into it.
A lot has been weighing on my mind lately. If you know me, you know that when my brain gets loud, I have to get it all out on paper—or in this case, on the screen. Have you ever sat back and just marvelled at the absolutely bizarre, unpredictable nature of human relationships? Because lately, I’ve been going down a mental rabbit hole trying to understand why I can go through an absolute hurricane of a disagreement with some people, mend the bridges, talk it all out, and move forward with zero hard feelings… yet, with certain other people, it’s like trying to teach calculus to a golden retriever. Or trying to pair Bluetooth with a toaster. It’s just not going to connect, no matter how many times you restart the system.
No matter how hard I try, no matter how many different ways I attempt to explain myself, I just can’t seem to work things out or fix things with them. And honestly? I’m finally realizing that is perfectly fine.
The Universe’s Masterclass on Inner Peace
Lately, I’ve been enrolled in the universe’s masterclass on inner peace, and the biggest, most glaring lesson I’ve learned is that silence speaks so much louder than words ever could.
I’m naturally the kind of person who gives everybody a chance. I’ll make space for you in my life, pull up a chair for you at my table, and offer you the best of what I have. But the second I feel that negative energy, my internal alarm bells start ringing. I just know when something isn’t right. We all have that gut feeling, right? We just spend way too much time trying to talk ourselves out of it because we want to see the good in people.
Trusting Your Gut When the Energy Shifts
The sad truth is, people always seem to like coming at me sideways, and somehow, I never see it coming. It’s like a jump scare in a movie that was billed as a lighthearted rom-com. You’re just sitting there enjoying your popcorn, and suddenly—bam—someone is showing you a side of themselves that completely knocks the wind out of you.
Once that happens, though, a switch flips in my brain. My vision of them changes completely, and that change is permanent. It’s like suddenly realizing a fancy dessert you ordered is mostly just shaving cream—you’re definitely not taking another bite. I know I was real and honest from the very start with them. People know exactly what they do, even if they put on an Oscar-worthy performance playing the victim. Because of that, I’ve realized I don’t ever need to prove anything to them.
Letting the Truth Surface on Its Own
The old Tina might have tied herself in knots trying to figure it out. I would have spent sleepless nights staring at the ceiling, replaying conversations, and exhausting myself trying to find the missing puzzle piece. Why did they say that? Why did they do that? What could I have done differently? But now? I don’t hate. I don’t chase. I don’t even question “why” anymore like I used to.
I just step back, get quiet, and let the truth rise to the surface all on its own. Truth has a funny way of floating to the top eventually, and I don’t need to pull a muscle trying to drag it up there. Let time do the heavy lifting.
The Myth of Closure and Burning Bridges
We are constantly taught by society to seek “closure” like it’s some magical, healing balm. “Just have one last conversation,” they say. “Just clear the air.” But honestly, I don’t need closure. I don’t need to sit down over a tense, awkward cup of coffee to explain myself, especially not when my respect gets crossed. When disrespect enters the chat, my participation in the conversation is officially over.
People love to say you shouldn’t burn bridges, but I’m here to tell you that some bridges need to stay burning in flames. Let them burn. They were leading nowhere good anyway, and we can use the light from the fire to see our way forward. Plus, watching a toxic bridge burn is surprisingly cozy.
I will never regret my silence. There are billions of people on this earth, and some of them you just cannot talk to. You can bend over backwards, translate your feelings into five different languages, draw a color-coded diagram with a laser pointer, and they still won’t get it. They are committed to misunderstanding you because it fits the narrative they’ve created in their head.
How I’m Moving Differently Now
So, once I feel that energy shift? I move differently. That’s just what I do now.
Leaving the Guilt Behind
What does “moving differently” look like? It looks like leaving the text on read. It looks like not checking their social media to see what they’re up to. It looks like reclaiming my Sunday afternoons instead of spending them agonizing over someone else’s bad behavior. I silently wish them well, hope they are alright with their decisions, and I keep walking. Whatever people did to me in the past, or whatever they try to do to me currently—that’s entirely on them now.
I used to feel so bad about stepping away. I’d carry all this guilt like I was hauling a suitcase full of bricks up a mountain. But my emotional lower back is tired, guys. I don’t feel bad anymore. I’m done explaining.
Embracing the “You’ve Changed” Accusation
Here is a fun little side effect of choosing your peace: people will accuse you of changing.
“You’re not the same Tina,” they’ll say, usually with a hint of accusation. And you know what? They’re absolutely right. I have changed. I evolved. Sometimes people get incredibly mad when you stop acting like the version of you that was convenient for them. They miss the version of you that lacked boundaries, the version that would apologize for things you didn’t even do just to keep the peace.
Choosing Actual Peace Over Fake Harmony
I chose actual peace over fake harmony. I finally chose me.
I absolutely refuse to carry weight that was never mine to carry to begin with. I am entirely done letting fake love take up my precious time. Honestly, I don’t even care if they like me, or if they like my growth. I’m walking forward, completely clean. No ties, no ropes pulling me back to old, recycled drama.
No one has to understand my decision. They just have to respect my distance.
The Bottom Line: Energy is a Currency
If you’re reading this and feeling like you’re in the same boat, please hear this: choosing yourself does not make you the villain. I’m not bitter. I’m not cold. I’m simply protecting what is built in my soul. I don’t argue anymore, and I certainly don’t react the way I used to. If a relationship, a conversation, or a situation costs me my peace? Then the price tag is way too high, and I’ll gladly put it back on the shelf and let it fade.
Here is the bottom line: I don’t owe anybody anything. Not my truth, and certainly not my tears. If you couldn’t treat me right and be solid with me, that’s a loss you have to move through, not me. I forgive, because holding onto anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to get sick, but I definitely do not forget.
My energy is a currency, and I am officially tired of making bad investments.
Lessons were learned, tears were probably shed at some point, but ultimately, the silence saved me.
Zero apologies for my peace.
Love,
Tina

Fantastic post Tina! I love (and totally agree) with your ideology and perspectives. Looking forward to reading more of you posts.
You’re spot on, there are some people in this world who will just not get it. It’s best to move on from them. As for closure, I believe that it doesn’t really exist, you simply deal with something, bury it and move on.
Thank you!
You are a wonderful storyteller. I’ve enjoyed reading your blog, and I’m inspired by all that you are learning about yourself.
Thank you so much Vachon. I really do appreciate it a lot and thank you for joining me on this journey.
The pleasure is all mine. You are a beautiful woman inside and out.
