Hey friends, Tina here. Pull up a chair—or a floor cushion, or just keep scrolling while you wait for your coffee to brew.
I recently stumbled across a simple sentence that hit me harder than a double shot of espresso on an empty stomach: “No points to prove, I’m just living life.”
As soon as I read it, I felt this massive, invisible weight lift off my shoulders. You know the one? It’s that heavy backpack we all carry, stuffed with the need to be the “most productive,” the “most put-together,” or the “most likely to have a Pinterest-worthy pantry.”
Auditioning for a Life I Didn’t Want
For a long time, I think I was subconsciously auditioning for a role I didn’t even want. I felt like I had to prove I was successful enough to my high school peers (who I haven’t seen in a decade), prove I was “chill” enough to my friends, and prove I was “adulting” correctly to my mom.
It’s exhausting! It’s like being in a 24/7 talent show where the judges are just people staring at their own phones. I’d catch myself thinking:
- “I should post a photo of this salad so people know I’m healthy,” even though I actually followed it up with a sleeve of Thin Mints.
- “I need to stay late at the office so people know I’m a hard worker,” even though I spent the last hour wondering if penguins have knees (spoiler: they do).
My Resignation from the Validation Olympics
So, I’ve decided to retire. I’m officially handing in my resignation to the Validation Olympics. I’m done trying to “prove” my worth through my output or my aesthetics.
What does “just living life” actually look like for me lately? Honestly, it’s a bit messy, and that’s the best part.
1. The “Un-Curated” Joy
I went for a walk yesterday. I didn’t track it on an app. I didn’t take a photo of my sneakers against the pavement. I just… walked. My legs moved, I smelled some damp eucalyptus, and I didn’t get a single digital gold star for it. It was glorious.
2. The Permission to be Mediocre
I’ve started a watercolor hobby. Am I good? Absolutely not. My “sunset” looks like a tragic accident involving a ketchup bottle. But for once, I’m not trying to be a “pro” or turn it into a side hustle. I’m just moving paint around because the colors look pretty.
3. Social Media Silence
I’ve realized that if I don’t post about my weekend, it still happened. The memories don’t expire if they aren’t “liked.”
Breaking Free from the “Personal Brand” Burnout
I think we’re all collectively burnt out because we’ve been told that every moment has to mean something or add to our personal brand. But what if our “brand” is just being a human who enjoys a good nap and sometimes forgets why they walked into a room?
When you stop trying to prove you’re smart, you actually have space to learn. When you stop trying to prove you’re happy, you actually have space to feel genuine joy.
The Rebellion of Being “Just” You
If you’re reading this and feeling that familiar tightness in your chest—that “I need to be doing more” feeling—try this: Do something today that is completely pointless.
Eat the cake without the “cheat meal” caption. Wear the outfit that makes you look like a colorful marshmallow just because it’s cozy. Leave the dishes for tomorrow and stare at the ceiling for ten minutes.
I’m realizing that the most rebellious thing you can do in this world is to be totally, unapologetically okay with being “just” you. No highlights, no filters, no points to prove. I’m just Tina. I’m just living. And honestly? It’s the first time in a long time I’ve felt like I’m actually winning.
What’s one thing you’d do differently today if you had absolutely nothing to prove to anyone? Let’s talk about it in the comments (or don’t, if you’re busy “just living”—I’ll totally understand).

“I’m realizing that the most rebellious thing you can do in this world is to be totally, unapologetically okay with being “just” you.” Bravo! I agree. Ah, I hear Bob Seger singing “Against The Wind.” You rebel, you.
“’I should post a photo of this salad so people know I’m healthy,’ even though I actually followed it up with a sleeve of Thin Mints.” ;>)
