Why My Give-a-Damn is Broken

Why My Give-a-Damn is Broken

Hey everyone, Tina here. Take a seat, get comfortable, and maybe put on some protective eyewear, because today’s mood is a little… spicy.

I was scrolling through my feed the other day—you know, that thing we do when we should be sleeping or doing laundry—and I saw a quote that stopped me dead in my tracks. It started off so sweet, so sincere: “I apologize to anyone I’ve ever hurt & offended.” My internal monologue was like, “Aww, look at this personal growth! Look at this accountability!” And then I read the next line: “I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive DEEZ NUTS! FUCC Y’ALL!!!”

I laughed so hard I nearly choked on my lukewarm coffee. It’s crass, it’s chaotic, and honestly? It’s exactly the kind of energy I’ve been feeling lately.

The Professional “I’m Sorry” Machine

Let’s be real: as women, we are practically conditioned from birth to apologize for existing. We apologize when someone bumps into us at the grocery store. We apologize for having an opinion in a meeting. We apologize for the weather, for being tired, and for the fact that the Netflix algorithm is acting up.

I spent a good decade of my life being a professional “I’m Sorry” machine. I was so worried about offending people or being “too much” that I was basically walking on eggshells in my own house. But there comes a point where you realize that no matter how much you apologize, some people are just going to be offended by the fact that you’re breathing.

The Ultimate “Exhausted Bridge-Burner”

That quote? It’s the ultimate “exhausted bridge-burner.” It’s what happens when you’ve run out of polite ways to say, “I’m done carrying the weight of your expectations.”

What I love about the prompt is the emotional bait-and-switch. It starts with that high-road, “I’ve been journaling and doing yoga” vibe. It draws you in with the promise of a heartfelt olive branch. And then, right when the reader is feeling all warm and fuzzy, it hits them with the punchline.

The Liberation of Zero F***s Given

It’s the digital equivalent of someone asking for a hug and then hitting you with a “wet willy.”

There is something deeply liberating about that level of “zero f***s given.” It’s not about being a mean person (I promise, I still return my shopping cart to the corral); it’s about reclaiming your peace by refusing to perform the “perfectly polite” role anymore. Sometimes, the most healing thing you can say is “Fucc y’all” and go about your day.

Dealing With the Energy Drainers

We all have those people in our lives—the ones who drain your energy, the ones who take your kindness for weakness, or the ones who hold onto a grudge from 2014 like it’s a family heirloom.

When you read a post like that, a tiny part of your soul—the part that’s tired of being the “bigger person”—stands up and cheers.

  • The Ex who still checks your stories? Forgive deez nuts.
  • The “friend” who only calls when they need a favor? Forgive deez nuts.
  • The person who told you that your hair looked “interesting” today? You guessed it.

Entering My New Era

I’m entering my “Forgive Deez Nuts” era. Not because I’m actually out here trying to hurt people, but because I’m done apologizing for being a human being with boundaries. If my success, my happiness, or my refusal to play games offends you? I hope you can find it in your heart to… well, refer to the image above.

It’s about quality over quantity. I’d rather have three friends who get my humor and love my mess than a hundred acquaintances who think I’m “nice” because I never disagree with them.
