What’s the trait you value most about yourself?
Hi there! This is Tina, coming at you with another installment of “Stories from Tina” – where I share the highs, the lows, and the downright bizarre moments that make up my life. Today, I’m tackling a question that I’ve been pondering for a while now: what’s the trait I value most about myself?
Now, I know what you’re probably thinking – is it her killer sense of style? Her uncanny ability to always have the perfect sarcastic comeback ready to go? Her top-notch karaoke skills (I’m looking at you, “Wannabe” by the Spice Girls)? Well, I’m here to tell you that while all of those things are certainly impressive in their own right, the trait I value most about myself is actually my resilience.
Yep, you heard that right. Resilience. It may not be the most glamorous or exciting trait, but let me tell you, it’s saved my bacon more times than I can count.
You see, life has a way of throwing some pretty wild curveballs your way, and if you don’t have the ability to bounce back, well, let’s just say you might end up spending a lot of time curled up in the fetal position, eating your weight in Ben & Jerry’s. But not me, my friends. When life gives me lemons, I say, “Thanks, but I’m more of a strawberry lemonade kind of gal.” And then I get to work figuring out how to turn those lemons into something delicious.
Take, for example, the time I lost my job. I know, I know, it’s the stuff of nightmares, right? But you know what I did? I didn’t wallow in self-pity (well, maybe for a day or two). Instead, I dusted off my resume, hit the job boards, and started networking like a pro. And you know what? It paid off. I landed an even better gig that was more in line with my passions and values.
Or how about the time I went through a messy breakup? Again, not exactly a walk in the park. But instead of letting it destroy me, I channeled all of that heartbreak and frustration into something positive. I started taking dance classes, reconnected with friends, and even started a blog (hello, “Stories from Tina”!) as a way to process my emotions and share my experiences with others.
And let’s not forget the time I decided to run a marathon on a whim. I mean, who does that? Well, this girl, that’s who. Sure, there were times during training when I wanted to throw in the towel and just settle for a leisurely stroll around the block. But I persevered, pushed through the pain, and ultimately crossed that finish line feeling like a total badass.
So, yeah, resilience might not be the flashiest or most glamorous trait, but it’s the one that I value most about myself. It’s the thing that’s helped me navigate the ups and downs of life, pick myself up when I’ve stumbled, and come out the other side even stronger than before.
And you know what? I think resilience is something that we could all use a little more of. Because let’s be real, life is messy, unpredictable, and full of surprises (not always the good kind). But if we can cultivate that ability to bounce back, to adapt and overcome, to turn lemons into lemonade, then I believe we’ll be better equipped to handle whatever comes our way.
So, the next time you’re faced with a challenge or a setback, remember this: you’ve got this. You’ve got the resilience to power through, the creativity to find a solution, and the strength to come out on top. And if you ever need a little extra motivation, just remember – if Tina can do it, so can you.
