What do you listen to while you work?
Hey lovely people! Tina here, sharing yet another piece from the rollercoaster of life that we all ride together. So, I was sipping my second (alright, it was my third—don’t judge me!) cup of coffee this morning, getting ready to buckle down and tackle my work for the day, when I caught myself in the midst of an existential dilemma: What the heck should I listen to while I work?! Now, this might seem like a trivial question at first glance, but for those of us who spend endless hours toiling away at our desks, it’s a big deal. I mean, the right soundtrack can make the difference between a productive work sprint and spending the next hour scrolling through assorted memes and deciding that you absolutely need a new set of artisanal paperclips (even though you’ll never use them).
So, in true Tina fashion, I embarked on a melodious journey of experimentation. Mornings typically kick off with some classical tunes. Picture this: me, coffee in hand, pretending to be an intellectual as Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 plays triumphantly in the background. My brain cells seem synchronized, and I swear even my office plants look more sophisticated. As the day progresses and my energy starts to wane (we’ve all been there), I switch it up with some upbeat pop. Ariana Grande’s electrifying voice pumps me up for those intense spreadsheets and impending deadlines. I mean, who knew “thank u, next” could be a mantra for swiftly handling one email and diving right into the next?
By early afternoon, though, post-lunch drowsiness kicks in, and the struggle to stay focused is all too real. That’s when I turn to my secret weapon: 90’s hip-hop. Yeah, you heard me right. There’s something wildly invigorating about working to the beat of old-school legends like Tupac and Biggie. It’s like they pass some of their iconic cool to you, and before you know it, you’re tapping away at that keyboard with newfound vigor, maybe even throwing in a little chair dance.
Late afternoons, however, are a wild card. Sometimes, I need the serene ambiance of nature sounds—think babbling brooks and chirping birds. Other times, I need the unfiltered chaos of a true crime podcast to jolt my senses awake (don’t ask why, it just works). There’s also the occasional dive into instrumental jazz—nothing sharpens your focus like the soulful notes of a saxophone.
Finally, as the day winds down and my brain ceases to compute complex information, I bring out the heavy hitter: Lo-fi hip-hop beats. You know the kind; those chilled, reverberating notes that feel like a warm hug for your tired neurons. It’s like a serene end to a chaotic symphony of a day.
So, dear readers, if you’ve ever found yourself in the same dilemma, know that you’re not alone. Your perfect work soundtrack is out there waiting to be discovered, and the journey to find it can be as delightful (and hilariously unpredictable) as the workday itself. Until next time, happy listening!
