The One Question I Despise: A Candid Confession

Hi there, it’s me, Tina!

Today, I thought I’d share something personal with you all. A question that, quite honestly, I find incredibly grating. What is it, you ask? Well, let’s dive right into it.

The question I absolutely detest being asked is, “Where do you see yourself in five years?”

Why does this question irk me, you ask? I will tell you.

Firstly, it’s the inherent unpredictability of life that makes this question so tough to answer. How can one be expected to have a clear, detailed plan for the next five years when life has an uncanny knack for throwing curveballs? The world is constantly changing, and so are we. Our interests evolve, our circumstances shift, and our perspectives transform.

Secondly, this question often comes with an undercurrent of pressure and expectation. It’s as though if you don’t have a five-year plan, you’re somehow falling short. But life isn’t a business plan or a project with predicted outcomes. It’s a journey, a beautiful, unpredictable voyage of discovery.

Finally, I believe in living in the present, cherishing the here and now. While it’s important to have goals and ambitions, focusing too much on the future can rob us of the joy of the present moment.

So, the next time someone asks you about your five-year plan, remember it’s okay not to have a concrete answer. It’s okay to be figuring things out, to be on a journey of self-discovery, to be living in and enjoying the present.

Until next time, remember – it’s your journey, and you get to decide the pace and the path.

With love,
Tina
